Dixie D’Amelio wears a lot of hats as a content creator, influencer, and more recently, a singer looking to move away from her TikTok past and make a name for herself in the music industry. But her recent decision to shave her head and rock an edgy buzz cut is one of the biggest physical manifestations of this journey. Given that both of the D’Amelio sisters are often touted for their traditional girl-next-door beauty, this blatant rejection of her squeaky-clean image seems like an indication that D’Amelio is truly coming into her own.
“Wow,” hairstylist Laura Polko wrote on her Instagram alongside photos of her shaving D’Amelio’s head. “I love you.. it’s been fun.. see you when you’re hairs back but I love you and loved having this moment with you you’ve talking abt since the day I met you.”
“I don’t want anyone to think I’m like having a mental breakdown. I’ve wanted to do this since like sixth grade.”
D’Amelio shared a video entitled “I Just Shaved My Head!” to her YouTube channel documenting the entire experience, from her decision-making process to the big reveal. “I just want to restart,” she says in the very beginning of the video. “I’ve been sad recently, but I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want anyone to think I’m like having a mental breakdown. I’ve wanted to do this since like sixth grade,” she adds.
According to her YouTube, D’Amelio ended up shaving her head earlier than most people knew, but she wore a wig so that she could reveal her new look on the red carpet. Although hesitant at first, after looking in the mirror for the first time, she exclaims, “I really like it!” and asks her hairstylist to take her hair even shorter, fully committing to her new look. As she previously explained to the camera, “Everyone who I’ve told is like, ‘Oh, that’s going to be dope,’ and if someone doesn’t like it, then like who cares?”
