Everything the ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Cast Has Said About a Possible Movie

Simply the best! After the hit show’s iconic television run, the potential for a Schitt’s Creek movie looks brighter than ever.

The series originally ran for six seasons starting in 2015, and its finale aired in April 2020. The show was created by father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, and it slowly rose to critical acclaim.

As the show approached its final destination, the American Pie actor revealed that it was “the right time” to end the series. “All the stories kind of resolved themselves in as natural a way as you could, and there was no point in really extending it,” Eugene explained in November 2020 during an interview with Fox 5 New York.

Series lead Catherine O’Hara shared that it was “hard to let go” of the show and her Schitt’s Creek family after the final season.

“I’m really spoiled,” the actress told Us Weekly and other reporters at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in January 2020. “I was spoiled right at the very beginning with Second City and SCTV … it’s really hard to let go once you’ve had it at this point.”

The comedy legend continued to gush about her costars as she reflected on her time on Schitt’s Creek.

“The scripts that were given to us, the opportunities that my character was given, and how well and carefully Daniel wrote for all of our characters — they really are wrapped up beautifully this season,” she added. “Eugene and Daniel [had] the freedom to make the show they wanted to make. I don’t know why more people don’t do that.”

Just because the show wrapped doesn’t mean there isn’t hope for a future movie that would bring the Schitt’s Creek characters back. “The idea of working with these people again is still something that is kind of at the front of our brains,” Eugene added.

Daniel also confirmed that a possible movie was on his mind, as long as it was handled properly. “I’m very sort of sensitive to overstaying your welcome in any capacity. So we’ll see in a few years, if it all sort of comes together,” the Canada native clarified during an interview with E! in November 2020.

September 2020

After winning a massive nine trophies at the Emmys in September 2020, Dan confirmed that the final season was “the best way we could have ever ended the show”.

But he didn’t deny the possibility of a film, adding, “If there is an idea that pops into my head it has to be really freaking good because this is a nice way to say goodbye. Fingers crossed we get a nice idea popping into our head soon. … I would love to work with these people again.”

Daniel later told E! he “would love” for there to be a movie and he’s not “ruling it out.” He added, “It’s very flattering that people want to know, but I would just say generally I think you need to let the good things settle for a minute. Let people finish the show. Let people sort of take a breath. And then if people are still interested and an idea comes to me and our cast is wanting to do it, then great.”

November 2020

In November 2020, Eugene revealed that there was still hope for more Schitt’s Creek in the future. “We’ve never ruled out the possibility that, you know, we could come back in some form, be it a movie or another Christmas thing or who knows? But nothing has been ruled out, believe me,” he said during an interview with Fox 5 New York.

Sarah Levy added her hopes for a Schitt’s Creek revival during a Screen Actors Guild Awards pre-show interview.

“I keep hearing about a movie!” the actress said. “This remains to be seen, but I’m here for it if that’s the case.”

“I mean, I’ve been sending Dan $5 a day in the mail as a bribe. So far I have not heard back about a movie officially. But, oh, my God, I would be just over the moon if that ever came to pass because I miss everyone so much every day. Just to see Moira again, I would pay a lot of money to do that,” Annie Murphy exclusively told Us Weekly. “Did David and Patrick adopt a kid? I sure hope Alexis doesn’t because I think she is perhaps not quite in that yet, but I don’t know. I just want to see everyone on screen again and I will be a happy camper.”

“I don’t even doubt. I wouldn’t put it past him for a second. I have all the hope in the world that there will be a movie,” Sarah told Us Weekly in July. “I think we’d all just drop every project we were on just to get a chance to work together again. We just love each other so much and have kind of experienced this just incredible experience over the past six years together, seeing how the show has really taken off and affected so many people around the world. And I think through that, we’re all kind of tied together forever in a way, but we would in a heartbeat do it.”

She added that she knows nothing, telling Us, “Daniel won’t give anything away ever, you know, he’s extremely busy right now. But I’d be surprised if it didn’t happen one day down the road.”

“[There’s] no update on a Schitt’s Creek movie,” the Q-Force alum exclusively told Us Weekly at Glenn Close and Bring Change to Mind’s annual “Revels & Revelations” Gala. However, he noted that a “really good idea” could shift things.

“Until that happens, we’re leaving it as is,” Dan told Us during the mental health event in New York City. “But the book [Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: The Story of Schitt’s Creek] was good, and the book was something that I spent a really long time on. So until that happens, if that happens, there’s a wonderful book that people could pick up.”

Schitts Creeks Emily Hampshire Jokes Stevie Might Be Pregnant in Possible Movie

“I think we all chip in on that bribe,” Hampshire exclusively told Us of sending Daniel money to get him to write a script. “I can’t say anything official, but I would be very surprised if we never got together to do something again. We’ll never do the show again, but I would be surprised if we didn’t all get together for some kind of special.”

If a Schitt’s Creek movie does happen, the actress has an idea for her Stevie Budd character too. “For some reason I have had dreams that sometimes we’re doing the show again and Stevie’s pregnant. And I’m like, ‘Where did this come from!?’ And I’d wake up in a sweat, like, in this nightmare,” she said. “That’s some unconscious nightmare thing. So if Stevie is pregnant, it’s not my fault. I had that dream a bunch of times.”

“It has to be worth doing,” O’Hara said about the potential film during an interview with ET Canada, noting, “[But] I would love to do anything with [Dan and Eugene Levy].”

The Home Alone actress added: “I know there’s been some talk, but Daniel always says it has to be the right idea and he’s right. It has to be worth doing. You don’t want to just take advantage of the fact that people want you to do it. We’ve had the loveliest, kindest audience and we don’t want to let them down. I hope we do do it someday!”

“My hope is that one day we can all get together. I see these people all the time. We’re in constant contact with each other. So the love is there. The desire to work together is there, and the desire to tell more stories is there,” Dan gushed to People of his former cast members. “I think it just comes down to making sure that it’s the right story to tell. And I think we’re also proud of the work we did on Schitt’s. And when you end on such a high, it really forces you to think very carefully about what the next step is.”

The Happiest Season star continued: “I think when you have an audience that’s paid attention to you for 80 episodes of a television show, the last thing you want is to put something out that makes them think this feels like a cash grab. And that’s not what we’re about. So TBD, but a TBD with an exclamation mark on the end.”

The Wynonna Earp alum exclusively told Us in December 2022 that while nothing has been confirmed, he’s heard “rumblings” of a potential movie and would “100 percent” return as his character, Mutt. “I love that show,” he gushed of the Emmy-award winning comedy.

When asked where he’d want the youngest Schitt to be today, he said, “[Mutt] did go on the longest Pine Cone Festival excursion of all time. I just want him to come back with a plaid shirt and a beard and I’ll be happy.”
